My first time cooking sambal udang at my parents in law's house. I still remember my sister in law and her family were all there. For the sambal, I boiled the dried chillies first before blending it. They thought my sambal might be hot. Yalah I'm a Nogori lady. But after they tasted it, taraaa - it's sweet.
It's "sambal" but it's not "pedas". And my "asam pedas" is not "pedas", only "asam". My Kelantanese husband can eat his wife's sambal and asam pedas, all because of this.
I did eat hot food but after eating it, the toilet would call me, "Mari, mari, mari". That's why I cannot eat hot food. If only a mild one, it's ok ler.
