This is an old story of mine. It's in 2008 or 2009, if I'm not mistaken.
When we had PSS month at school, I did ask a few subject teachers' help to conduct a competition in that month. And there was one female teacher, two years before she retired, she wanted to do something for her subject. A cooking competition. And she managed to do it twice. She's the late Kak RW. I admired her. A very dedicated teacher. It's not easy. She had to make sure the kitchen was well-equipped before the competition. I still remember the first cooking competition, the theme was "Kuih".
It was not an individual competition. Each participant must have a partner. And there were two Chinese boys who wanted to take part. I looked at them. Well, they looked serious and determined. So I just asked them to write their name on a piece of paper. A week before the competition , all the participants must submit their recipe for Kak RW to check. No recipe , No competition. After checking the recipes, Kak RW gave me the list of the cooking competition participants. I read the names in the list .Yup, the boys' name was there. And they're going to make Fruit tarts. Wow.
We had the competition after school. I was there with Kak RW. She had already asked a few girls to help her. I walked from one table to another, to see if they had any problems. But the participants were good. They just focused on what they're doing. Kak RW was the judge. And I took photos for documentation. The result of the cooking competition didn't surprise me at all. Yes, the two boys won for their Fruit tarts. Their Fruit tarts were beautiful like in the bakery's ones. I did taste the tart. It's yummy. And they were 15 or 16 years old.
The next year, the two boys took part in another cooking competition. The theme was " Healthy Food". But they lost. Never mind. Let them learn from their mistakes. After a few years, one of them came to school to visit his teachers. He told me that he worked in a hotel cafe and I was so proud of him. And may Allah bless Kak RW's soul for her kindness and dedication. Aamiin ya Allah.
