X towkey
We had dinner in one of the restaurants in Gemas. We ordered a few dishes and one of them was sweet sour ikan siakap. They fried the fish too long and it was hard for my mother to eat it. After paying the meals, my husband and my son left first. I had to wait for my mother. So the guys asked me about the fish. I told them not to cook the fish too long next time. And they said, " tadi garing sikit, kak ". I said , " No. Sangat garing so my mother cannot eat it ". But I told them that the sauce was good. They kept smiling until my mother said something about business and they stopped smiling.
Sighhhh. My mother was a towkey . She started selling fish, prawns, bla bla n bla in the market in 1973 . She was the first Malay selling fish there. At first she had no customers because she was new , she's Malay and she's a woman. But she made a few marketing strategies for her business. Just share one . She's the first person to provide service for cutting and cleaning the fish for her customers . Then she had many lady customers . After that, other fish sellers in the market followed her step. When she had too many customers , she hired a male Malay worker to help her . But when he knew how to do that business, he opened his own . So she's alone handling the business. Sometimes, her children would help her. She's awesome. Even the old Chinese towkeys respect her.
I still remember when I was in the market helping my mother. I think I was in primary school at that time (That's why I am good in calculation hahahaha) . A woman came to see my mother and showed the picture and article about my mother in "Wanita Magazine". Yup , I saw my mother's picture selling fish on that page but I didn't read the article. My mother just smiled, that's it. She didn't go to the shop to buy the magazine. Sighhhh. That's my mother. A very humble businesswoman.
